Description Boxing Gloves Fairtex BGV18 – Super Sparring – Black/Gold – 20 oz
The Fairtex BGV18 Super Sparring boxing gloves are designed exclusively for sparring. Their three-layer foam padding is significantly more voluminous than on classic training gloves, giving them a distinctive "pillow" profile. This extra volume absorbs impacts before they reach the training partner's head or body, substantially reducing the risk of injury during heavy exchange sessions.
The special microfiber used for the BGV18's exterior is not an aesthetic choice: with such thick padding, a genuine leather exterior would make the glove too heavy and unbalanced. Fairtex high-density microfiber maintains consistent weight across the entire glove while adding flexibility at the knuckle zone, making it easier to form a fist despite the volume. Unlike leather, it does not degrade with sweat, limiting odours after extended sessions.
The long padded velcro cuff provides wrist support appropriate for intensive sparring. The glove is handcrafted at the Fairtex workshop in Bangkok, founded in 1958. Available in 14, 16, 18 and 20 oz.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the BGV18 and a classic training glove?
A classic training glove like the BGV1 is designed for bag, pads and light sparring: its padding is balanced between protection and energy transfer. The BGV18 is designed exclusively for sparring: its three-layer "pillow" padding is much more voluminous, absorbing more impact before it reaches the partner. In return, the BGV18 is less suited to bag or pad work as the foam volume reduces striking precision. It is used alongside a training glove, not as a replacement.
Why microfiber and not leather on the BGV18?
The BGV18 carries significantly thicker padding than classic gloves. With a genuine leather exterior, the glove would be too heavy and unbalanced, making fist formation difficult and tiring the arm faster. Fairtex high-density microfiber compensates for this volume by remaining lightweight and flexible. It also offers a maintenance advantage: unlike leather, which degrades with sweat and repeated wet/dry cycles of sparring, microfiber retains its properties and colour over time.
How to choose between 14, 16, 18 and 20 oz?
The BGV18 is a sparring glove: size choice depends on body weight and the desired level of partner protection. 14 oz suits light sparring up to around 70 kg. 16 oz is the standard sparring size for most practitioners between 70 and 85 kg. 18 oz is recommended for body weights above 85 kg or for gyms wanting to maximise partner protection. 20 oz is reserved for very heavy punchers or gyms with high sparring frequency.
Can the BGV18 be used on the heavy bag?
No, the BGV18 is not designed for the heavy bag. Its pillow padding absorbs too much energy on impact to deliver a clean striking sensation on the bag, and repeated bag sessions compact the foam faster than sparring. For heavy bag and pad work, use Fairtex BGV1, BGV9 or BGV14 training gloves. The BGV18 is reserved for sparring sessions with a partner.
How to maintain the BGV18 microfiber gloves?
Air gloves out after each sparring session, never in a closed bag. Wipe exterior and interior with a damp cloth or antibacterial sport spray. Air-dry for at least 24 hours, away from direct heat sources (radiator, sunlight) that would deform the three-layer foam. As microfiber dries faster than leather, gloves are generally ready for the next session within a few hours. Never machine-wash.
