Boxing gloves: the complete guide to choosing the right pair in Switzerland
Introduction
Boxing gloves are a core part of fight equipment for boxing, kickboxing and muay thai in Switzerland. Choosing the right boxing gloves improves safety, comfort and performance during training and sparring.
Why choosing the right boxing gloves matters
Using unsuitable boxing gloves can lead to hand and wrist injuries and limit training efficiency. Well-designed gloves protect the joints, absorb impact and support correct punching technique.
- Better protection for hands and wrists
- Improved shock absorption
- Higher comfort and durability
How to choose boxing gloves
Glove weight (oz)
Boxing gloves are measured in ounces (oz). In Switzerland, common sizes are 12 oz for bag work, 14 oz for general training and 16 oz for sparring.
Closure system
Velcro boxing gloves are ideal for regular training and easy use. Lace-up gloves offer maximum wrist support and are mainly used for competition.
Material and padding
Leather boxing gloves provide better durability and comfort. Synthetic gloves are suitable for beginners or occasional training.
Boxing gloves by discipline
Each combat sport places different demands on boxing gloves.
- Boxing: balanced padding and strong wrist support
- Kickboxing: versatile gloves with good impact absorption
- Muay thai: flexible gloves allowing wrist mobility
Conclusion
Choosing the right boxing gloves is essential for safe and effective training. At CombatCorner.ch, you will find boxing gloves selected to meet the needs of fighters in Switzerland.
FAQ
Which boxing gloves should beginners choose?
Beginners should choose 14 oz boxing gloves with velcro closure. This size offers a good balance between protection, comfort and versatility for different types of training.
Can I use the same gloves for bag work and sparring?
It is possible, but not recommended long term. Using separate gloves for bag training and sparring helps maintain padding quality and improves safety for training partners.
Are heavier boxing gloves better?
Heavier gloves offer more protection and conditioning but are mainly recommended for sparring. Lighter gloves are better suited for speed and bag work.
